Sierra Nevada Conservancy Settles in Auburn
The Board of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy voted at its February 23 meeting to set up shop in Auburn. By law, the conservancy was required to establish its headquaters in the Sierra Nevada range “in order to effectively carry out its mission.”
The conservancy covers 25 million acres in 22 counties, from the Oregon border to Kern County. The board had decided the site had to be within two hours of Sacramento and had to be accessible year-round.
Sierra Nevada Conservancy, the state’s largest, will allocate funds to local governments for environmental protection and resource conservation, and sustainable economic development, including tourism and recreation.
